BEvents arranged in the order they happened, from earliest to latest
CA list of people's names
DA drawing of a clock
A timeline shows events placed in the order they happened. Events on the left or top happened first (earlier), and events on the right or bottom happened later. This helps us see the sequence of history.
Question 2 True / False
On a timeline, events that happened a long time ago are placed at the beginning (left side).
TTrue
FFalse
Answer: True
Timelines usually run from left to right (or top to bottom), with the earliest events at the beginning and the most recent events at the end. So events from long ago appear at the left side, and events from today appear at the right side.
Question 3 Short Answer
Put these in order from earliest to most recent: your grandparent was born, you started school, you were born.
Think about your answer, then reveal below.
Model answer: First, your grandparent was born. Second, you were born. Third, you started school.
A good answer puts the events in the correct chronological order. Your grandparent was born many years before you, you were born before you started school. This is sequencing — putting events in the order they happened.
Question 4 Multiple Choice
Which unit of time is the longest?
AA day
BA year
CA decade (10 years)
DA century (100 years)
A century is 100 years, which is the longest of these choices. A decade is 10 years, a year is 365 days, and a day is 24 hours. Understanding these time units helps us read and build timelines.
Question 5 True / False
A timeline must include every single event that ever happened.
TTrue
FFalse
Answer: False
A timeline shows selected events that are important to the topic being studied. It would be impossible to include every event. Historians choose which events to put on a timeline based on what story they are trying to tell.
