A melody is a sequence of notes that form the main tune of a song, the part you hum or whistle. Melodies move up and down in pitch and have rhythm. When you remember a song, you are usually remembering its melody.
Sing familiar melodies and trace their shape in the air with your hand, moving up for higher notes and down for lower ones. Compare melodies that mostly step up and down smoothly versus ones that jump around. Try inventing a short melody using just three or four notes.
